Election Results: Announcing Subvert's New Elected Board Members
— Subvert
On September 19 we held our first annual general meeting. Members voted on four bylaw resolutions, all of which passed, and each membership class elected a representative to the board.
Here they are.
Zoë Keating, artist seat. Burlington, Vermont. Composer and cellist who has put out her own records without a label since 2002. She has served on music industry boards before, including CASH Music and the MagikMagik Orchestra.
Javier Reyes, label seat. Paris, France. Co-runs Influenza Records, an indie rock label going since 2013, and plays guitar in Wonderflu. He ran on representing the many small labels that cannot justify paying monthly rent for label features.
Zoë Creighton, supporter seat. British Columbia, Canada. Co-founded Kootenay Co-op Radio in 1999 and has spent the years since starting, governing and consulting for co-ops across Canada. Currently vice chair of her local credit union.
These three new elected board members will be joining our six other elected board members:
- Austin Robey (Worker), NYC
- Sean Adams (Worker), NYC
- Hannah Lee (Artist), Bogotá, Colombia
- Iz Ocampo (Artist), Los Angeles, California
- Freya Yamamoto (Label), SF Bay
- Nick Austin (Supporter), Toronto, Canada
This is democracy at work. We believe that artists and artist communities are capable of self-governance, and that all companies should have workers and community members on their boards. Makes sense, doesn't it?
Thank you to everyone who cast a ballot, and to all forty-two members who ran.
If you missed our first AGM or want to watch it again, the full replay is available at subvert.fm/agm.
Next up, we are heads down on label pages and on making it easy to upload large catalogs. We are also working on monthly reports that show up directly in your Ownership Dashboard, so you can look at Subvert's metrics, growth and finances whenever you'd like.
More soon.
Sincerely Ours,
