How to vote
Subvert functions like a representative democracy rather than a direct democracy. Members do not vote on every decision the cooperative makes. Most decisions are made by the workers (day-to-day operations) or by an elected board (strategic decisions). Members vote on the people who make those decisions, and on the fundamental questions that change the cooperative itself.
For more on which decisions go to members, which go to the board, and which are made by workers, see Governance & Decision-Making.
When members vote
Every Co-op Member in good standing has one vote. You vote in two main contexts:
Board elections. Each membership class elects its own directors. As an Artist Member you vote for Artist directors. As a Label Member you vote for Label directors. As a Supporter Member you vote for Supporter directors. As a Worker Member you vote for Worker directors.
Member votes on fundamental decisions. All Co-op Members vote on amendments to the bylaws, on any merger or sale of the cooperative, and on any proposals on the Annual General Meeting ballot.
Voting eligibility
To be eligible to vote, you need to be an active member in good standing on the record date set for the vote. The criteria for active status are in your Member Agreement and the Bylaws. If you are not sure whether you are eligible, write to info@subvert.fm.
How votes happen
When a vote is happening, the cooperative notifies eligible members by email and on the forum, with instructions for how to cast your ballot.
