What it means to be a member

As a Co-op Member, you become a co-owner of Subvert Cooperative LCA.

In a co-op, membership is ownership. Members elect the board, share in the cooperative's surplus when there is any to share, and have a voice in how the organization is run. The members are the owners.

Your membership is yours individually. Your membership cannot be sold or transferred. Your voting power is the same as every other member's: one vote.

What you can do as a member

You can vote in elections, run for the board, propose changes to the cooperative, share in any future profit distributions, participate in the Subvert Forum, and access member-only discounts on releases across the platform. The full list of how to use these rights lives in this section.

Right after you join

You should have received a welcome email with your member number. If you did not, write to info@subvert.fm.

If you joined as an Artist Member or Label Member, you can claim your copy of the Co-op Member Guide, our printed zine, at the link in your welcome email. If you joined as a Supporter Member, your copy is on its way.

What to read first

If you want to understand the cooperative quickly, three pages cover most of what matters:

If you want to go deeper, the our zine covers the full picture in one document.

Where to find your fellow members

The Subvert Forum is where members talk to one another and to workers and board members about the cooperative. Your welcome email includes an invitation to join. The forum uses a separate login from the platform, so you will need to create a forum account when you first arrive.

What is expected of you

Not much. Membership is voluntary and you can be as involved or uninvolved as you want. The minimum to remain in good standing is signing in to the platform at least once every twelve months (and, for Artist and Label Members, keeping at least one release uploaded).

When elections happen, you will hear about them by email and on the forum. When the Annual General Meeting comes around, the same. Show up if you can. Vote if you want to. Submit a proposal if you have an idea worth voting on.

Where to ask questions
